Our History

Our History

A Strong Foundation

Our Founder, John G. Plumides, built the firm around the cornerstone of prompt personal service and skilled, aggressive legal representation delivered in a cost-effective manner. John attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for undergraduate and law school. He began practicing law in August 1953. From 1953 to 1955, he served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict.

In 1956, he joined with his brother Michael and formed Plumides Law. Michael Plumides passed away in 1997.

Recognition from His Peers:

One of his proudest moments as an attorney occurred in April of 2003 when he was featured by the Mecklenburg County Bar as one of the “Heroes of Our Bar” and in that same year was recognized for 50 years of practice by the North Carolina Bar Association. During his career, he won numerous Court of Appeals cases which changed both civil and criminal law in North Carolina, including one case that went to the United States Supreme Court.

A Life-time of Service:

John served as president of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association, the largest Greek American organization in the world. He became the youngest supreme president in AHEPA history at the age of 36. He became supreme president for a second term in 1986. He was able to recommission the Truman statue, which had been destroyed by terrorist in Athens, Greece. During his time with the AHEPA, he worked vigorously on the Cypress conflict, having met and worked with Presidents Johnson, Nixon, Carter, Reagan and Bush. He later received the King George “Medal of Honor” for his tireless efforts in Greek American affairs.

John was also active with the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, serving as a council member for over 25 years. In 1972, His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Athenagoras made John an Archon of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle. Receiving the title of “Mega Archon” is the highest honor a layperson can receive in the Eastern Orthodox Church. He served on the Board of Trustees of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Charlotte for over 15 years and as president for seven.

In 1964, he was chosen by President Lyndon B. Johnson to fly to Greece on “Air Force One” along with Lady Bird Johnson, President Harry S. Truman and Archbishop Iakovos to be part of the U.S. delegation personally representing President Lyndon B. Johnson at the funeral of King Paul of Greece. First Lady Johnson later referred to John as “a successful lawyer, head of AHEPA, hopeful sometime I think, of going into politics” in her memoirs White House Diary.

John was extensively involved with the Democratic National party on local and national levels. He won the Democratic primaries for U.S. Representative for the 8th Congressional District of North Carolina. He was chosen twice as a delegate to the Democratic National conventions. He also served as one of President Jimmy Carter’s national campaign managers. President William J. Clinton recognized him for his support during both his campaigns and presidencies. John received the North Carolina “Distinguished Citizen Award” from then Governor Terry Sanford.

In July 2015, Michael Romano and Richard B. Johnson joined Greg Plumides as managing partners at the firm. They formed Plumides, Romano  & Johnson, PC — PRJ Law.  In 2020, Toni Primiano and Clint Davis joined the firm.
